If you are getting ready to go down on bended knee to ask that all important question, before you do... take a moment to read my top tips on how to propose to your partner.
Make sure that you are both on the same page. Are you both in the same place in your relationship? If you are not sure about this, the best way to determine if this is the case you can subtly ask questions about marriage and engagement from your partner. Find out how she feels about the marriages and proposals of friends and family. She will give you a good idea about where she is in the relationship by talking about these things. She will also give you snippets on how to go about proposing (i.e. she might let slip that she thinks a certain way of proposing is not a good way).
Think about the ring. You know your partner best, would they like to choose the ring or would it be better to have it already. When you make this decision, go back over your conversations about engagement, what has she said about what she would prefer, if she has said anything. Think about what she might have always envisioned since she was a little girl. does she have that image of you holding out that ring to her and asking her to marry you. This is very important to keep in mind.
This leads me to my next point. Do you go down on bended knee? Again this depends on what your partner envisions and what you think she will like the best. Would she rather you ask her sitting over a romantic candle lit dinner ? Is she picturing you taking her to a romantic location and you going down on bended knee.
When & Where? The all important question. When you choose to propose is the most important element to your planning. What time of day, what day of the week, what date? Are you going to choose a day that has sentiment to you both? Choosing the right time is also important, has she just come back from the gym all sweaty and desperate for a shower? What location are you going to choose? Does the place have sentimental value for you? Is it a place you could potentially return to at a later date? These are things to think about before you actually take the next step.
