When you embark on your wedding planning it is understandable that having trust in your suppliers to be honest, reliable and who will provide you with the type of standard you can expect.
If you choose to work with a wedding planner, you are placing trust in your wedding planner to help guide you along the the most suitable path for you and your wedding vision. Ideally you want a wedding planner who will make recommendations to you that are most suitable for you, your budget and your wedding vision.
It is important to keep in mind that some wedding planners when working with suppliers, will charge them a commission fee for making the recommendation to you as the couple. What you as the couple should be aware of is how they charge for commission, if the suppliers they recommend are only those who they receive commission from and besides the commission they receive, on what other grounds they make the recommendations on.
When they receive commission this can be anything between 10-20% of the total amount they charge you for services rendered. What can happen is that to cover the cost of the commission fees, the supplier will up their fees for you to make sure they don't suffer any loss to their profits.
There is no reason why this arrangement between wedding planners and suppliers shouldn't be, as long as there is transparency between you and the wedding planner about any commission received or that would be received.
As a member of the UKAWP, I believe in not charging commission to recommend suppliers. I do this for the all important reason that I want all my clients to know that when they work with me, I am recommending suppliers purely on the basis that they are the best suited for you and your wedding vision.
When you decide to work with a wedding planner, you need to make sure that you ask the right questions.
